📅 API Retirement

OpenAI removed dall-e-2 and dall-e-3 from the API on May 12, 2026. They are unavailable for new API generation requests. See the official deprecation notice.

🖼️ Historical Capabilities

DALL·E 2 supported image generation and editing. DALL·E 3 improved text-prompt following and was integrated with ChatGPT for prompt refinement. These historical capabilities do not establish a current DALL·E editing service or free allowance.

💳 Current Access and Alternatives

There is no current DALL·E API plan to purchase. ChatGPT provides its current image experience under ChatGPT's access rules. Developers should use the current GPT Image documentation; it presently recommends GPT Image 2.5 models for new integrations. ChatGPT image access and API billing are separate.
